Tama County supervisors approve routine permits, budget amendment and claims; note cybersecurity attempts

The Tama County Board of Supervisors carried a set of routine administrative items and recorded a cybersecurity alert during its May 4 meeting.
The board approved a utility permit for the Iowa Department of Transportation and authorized the chair to sign. Supervisors also approved a DOT budget amendment for the engineer’s office after the interim county engineer said higher-than-anticipated Engineering and Administration costs would be offset by savings elsewhere. The board accepted the Tama County cost allocation plan prepared by Cost Advisory Services, Inc., and authorized the chair to sign the FY25 Certificate of Cost Allocation Statement.
Supervisor David Turner moved, and Curt Kupka seconded, to approve claims for payment totaling $64,463.91; the motion passed unanimously. Supervisor Turner also informed the board that two cyberattack attempts had been stopped before county information was compromised; the board said county backups are being explored. Supervisor Heather Knebel noted upcoming vacancies for a Zoning Board member (not seeking reappointment) and a Board of Adjustment member (interested in reappointment) with terms expiring June 30, 2026; she invited interested residents to contact Laura Wilson, Zoning Director.
The board adjourned at 10:29 a.m. after a second public comment period that included comments from Karen Murty and Kelly Purk.
