Stevensville — At its April 23 meeting, the Stevensville Town Council approved several administrative items including a new workers' compensation arrangement, appointment of two volunteer firefighter recruits and a full‑day town‑hall closure for staff training.
Workers' compensation: The treasurer reported that MMIA is phasing out its workers' compensation program and that Montana State Fund was the only carrier to provide a town quote. The treasurer said the town's rate from Montana State Fund is slightly less than what was being paid under MMIA and recommended acceptance. Council member Smith moved to accept the Montana State Fund quote and Council member Ross seconded; the motion passed 4‑0.
Town‑hall closure for training: Council approved closing the clerk's office and town hall on April 29 so department heads and council members can attend a full‑day training session; the session was quoted at $1,500 for an unlimited number of attendees. Council emphasized that emergency services (police, fire) would remain operational during the closure; the motion passed 4‑0.
Volunteer firefighter appointments: The council appointed Austin Kirkland (21), who said he has been attending department trainings and plans to pursue firefighter and EMT courses, and Jared Colton Johnson (recommended by the fire chief) as volunteer firefighter recruits. Both appointments were approved by roll call, 4‑0.
Other routine votes: The council also approved meeting minutes and claims (20327–20345; 20348–20351).
