Commissioners ask staff for a Turnpike presentation; Wayside House tiny-homes contract signed

Commissioner Sachs asked staff to coordinate with the Florida Department of Transportation and the Turnpike Enterprise to bring an update on Turnpike projects in Palm Beach County to the board at the May 19 workshop. The presentation should cover current and planned Turnpike widening and noise-abatement measures, including sound walls, the commissioner said.
Board members discussed the geographic scope of noise-mitigation efforts and urged staff to consult municipalities on any projects that affect city limits. Vice Mayor Woodward requested that staff set up any portal or notification system so district commissioners receive alerts when residents file related complaints.
On a separate item, Commissioner Sachs announced that the county will use opioid funds for tiny homes at Wayside House. County staff Tammy Fields confirmed the contract for the tiny-homes units was signed on both sides as of yesterday and closing will follow.
Mayor Baxter closed with community announcements and upcoming proclamations and invited board participation in local events.
