The Perry County Council approved multiple budget transfers and additional appropriations during its April 22 meeting, including a $157,000 cash transfer to the local road bridge match grant and a $60,000 intra-department transfer within the highway department to pay for culvert replacements.
Council approved a $214.80 transfer from the election board postage line to the clerk's supplies line to reimburse postage charges the clerk paid on behalf of the election board. The council also approved moving $60,000 within the highway department from truck drivers to culverts to replace culverts before paving work.
The council authorized a cash transfer of $157,000 from restricted MBA 1173 to fund the local road bridge match (9141). In addition, members approved an additional appropriation of $1,055 to replace UPS backup batteries for county IT systems; staff said current batteries only hold minutes of power when beeping.
The council accepted reimbursements to the public defender fund totaling $38,863.72 and appropriated $701.58 for juvenile reimbursement to ensure related bills are paid from reimbursements rather than general funds. A riverboat fund payment of $28,644 to an entity named Ferden was also approved.
Council members moved and seconded each item and approved them by voice vote. Several council members noted overall reserve balances and the need to guard the county's fiscal health amid state property tax relief that tightened budgets.
The council also approved smaller corrections and appropriations, including a $295.32 correction to the sheriff share matrix and purchases from the surveyor corner's perpetuation fund, which was described as having a cash balance of roughly $154,000.
