Susquehanna Township High School celebrated its girls basketball team Thursday as the board recognized the team's PIAA District 3 Class 4A championship and presented certificates to players and coaches. Representative Justin Fleming read a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives commending the squad's season and public service to the community.
"The House of Representatives of Pennsylvania takes great pleasure in recognizing the outstanding achievements realized by the youth of this nation," Fleming read as part of the citation, which recorded the district final score of 36'0 and the team's 22-5 season record. Head Coach Duron Dickerson was singled out in remarks and named coach of the year by conference committees.
Dr. Archer, who led the presentation, noted that the championship was the district's first in 45 years and called the team's advance to the Elite Eight a point of pride for the school community. Certificates of achievement were distributed to players and coaching staff and the board joined the celebration for a group photo.
The board and school administration also used the moment to highlight the role of volunteers and family support in athletics. Representative Fleming encouraged the students to keep building on the accomplishment and presented the official legislative citation on behalf of the House.
The school planned to post event photos and distribute awards to absent team members following the meeting.
