Bel Air commissioners unanimously appoint Michael L. CR as interim town administrator

The motion to approve the resolution was made and seconded during the board's budget work session and passed on a roll-call vote in which Commissioners Foss, Chismar, Taylor, Hanley and Chair Eding each voted “I.” The resolution gives the interim administrator “all powers and duties of the town administrator as provided by the charter and code of the Town of Bel Air, Maryland.”
Michael L. CR told the board he was "ready and prepared to accept the duties of interim town administrator" and said he would sign documents and otherwise "keep the ship sailing and keep everything moving in the right direction." He added he would keep the board informed as he assumed the duties.
The board moved into other budget business after the vote. Later in the same meeting the commissioners voted to enter a closed session under the Maryland Open Meetings Act to discuss potential appointments to the vacant town administrator position and related privacy concerns; the public portion of the meeting was adjourned without returning to open session.
The resolution was approved at the April 23, 2026 meeting; the appointment is effective that same date. The board did not discuss additional interim staffing details or a timeline for recruiting a permanent town administrator during the open session.
