County staff said the vendor-delivered telephone system for 911 has been delayed and that dispatchers may need to remain in the current building until the new system is installed and operational, likely in late June. The county's exchange agreement with the city allows a six-month vacancy window after occupancy; staff said limited short-term access to the current facility will be needed to support dispatch operations.
The county has nine historic grand-jury panels intended for installation in the new building. The panels are long and cannot be maneuvered into the basement; staff said they would be temporarily stored at the EMA building and that road department crews would assist with moving and offloading the panels.
Staff also raised concern that the elevator is not presently secured to the third-floor corridor that leads to the secured parking area. That raises potential code issues because any change that blocks an emergency egress could conflict with fire-code access. Commissioners asked staff and the civil engineer Paxton to evaluate options for meeting code, including potentially addressing the loading-dock and retaining-wall quotes presently under review.
Commissioners said they will coordinate site visits and confirm ramp and dock design before proceeding with final occupancy steps.
