The Desert Hot Springs City Council on April 21 ceremonially introduced and swore in two new members of the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.
Officer Alio Alvarez was presented by the police chief and pinned by a family member; staff recited his background including attendance at the Riverside County Sheriff’s Academy, three years as a community service officer with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, assignment to the Harupa Valley Station, and a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Arizona State University. Alvarez told the council he is “super excited to start” and expressed gratitude to his family and the department.
Officer Martin Carrillo was also introduced; staff noted Carrillo is a Coachella Valley native and previously served more than two years with the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department. Carrillo’s mother pinned him during the ceremony.
Both officers repeated the oath of office to uphold the U.S. and California Constitutions and to faithfully discharge their duties. The council paused the regular agenda briefly for photos before starting the 6 p.m. session.
