Planning official flags repowering meeting and possible battery-storage work near Lakota
Summary
Cass County planning and zoning staff told the board that the Lakota wind-turbine repowering meeting is scheduled for April 28 and that Align Energy has contacted the office about a battery storage plot and apparent site activity; staff said they will monitor and follow up if work is proceeding without full county approvals.

Corey, Cass County’s planning and zoning administrator, updated supervisors on local land-use activity, saying four building permits were issued recently and two setback-variance requests will proceed to the board of adjustments. He said a repowering project for wind turbines near Lakota is on the calendar for an April 28 meeting.
Corey also said the county had received calls and emails from Align Energy about a battery-storage plot and that there is a plot-of-survey indicating an expanded footprint; he said the company has inquired about moving forward and that he planned to check the site and follow up with landowners. Board members asked staff to keep an eye on the project and said they want any active earthmoving or staging to be confirmed with county permitting before it proceeds.
Corey emphasized he would reach out to local landowners and examine the site during routine fieldwork to confirm whether work is underway and, if necessary, engage the applicant to ensure appropriate approvals are in place.
