Flagstaff Water Services outlines major projects from Wildcat interceptor to Lake Mary rehab

Lee, a staff presenter for Flagstaff Water Services, gave commissioners a high-level capital-projects update on April 16, describing the scope and status of several major projects intended to improve sewer, reclaimed-water and raw-water reliability.
Key projects and status reported:
- Wildcat Interceptor: an upsizing of the trunk sewer (from 33 inches to approximately 44 or 48 inches) intended to meet city buildout capacity; currently in construction phases for the last mile segment.
- Rio de Flag solids-handling project: a solids-removal project at the Rio plant now about 60% in design to remove solids from the plant process rather than returning them to the collection system.
- Switzer Phase 5: potable-water trunk pipeline from the north reservoir filtration plant; about 90% plans and working on land descriptions and acquisitions.
- Lake Mary basins and raw-water pipeline: major rehabilitation needs for the Lake Mary basins (built in the 1960s) and design work to replace roughly five miles of problematic raw-water pipeline that has experienced frequent leaks.
- Tutill well redundancy: Fort Tutill Well No. 2 wellhouse design is about to go to bid to provide redundancy for Tutill One and maintain chlorine residuals in the Pineell area.
- Reclaimed-water bottleneck: upsizing from 8 to 12 inches through Sunnyside to improve summer capacity and redundancy when the Rio plant is in upset conditions.
Lee also summarized completed and near-complete projects such as a new NAU large meter and the Spruce Wash sewer upsizing. He flagged delays on some stormwater projects tied to FEMA site visits and noted the Rio de Flag flood-control project is coordinated with the Army Corps of Engineers and continues to be scheduled by that federal partner.
Commissioners discussed how to present project status to the public and the commission. Staff proposed a compact spreadsheet-based tracking page with a status indicator (green/yellow/red) and links to detailed project-management pages (hosted on SharePoint) for commissioners who want deeper information. Commissioners recommended separating "brick-and-mortar" CIP projects from consulting and study initiatives in the tracking view.
No formal actions were taken on project approvals at this meeting; staff were asked to refine the tracking page and return with a format that can link to more detailed PM materials.
