Cass County adopts FY 2627 budget, certifies tax levy and related resolutions

Cass County’s Board of Supervisors adopted its FY 2627 budget Monday after a public hearing and a detailed presentation from County Auditor Tammy. The board certified the tax levy and approved related resolutions setting elected-official compensation and declaring certain economic development expenditures to be for a public purpose.
Tammy presented the county’s revenue and expenditure plan, reporting total resources of $53,934,243 and total estimated revenues and other sources of $36,721,745. Net expenditures (after subtracting an ending fund balance) were described as $35,667,358, with roads and transportation, public safety and capital projects among the largest spending categories. Tammy illustrated how property tax dollars are distributed by example properties in the city of Alona and Bert Township and walked the board through service-area subtotals for public safety, roads, health and social services, and administration.
After closing the budget public hearing (no public speakers), the board voted to adopt resolution 04212602 to adopt the FY 2627 budget and certify taxes. The roll-call votes recorded were: Garmin — yes; Stacker (or Stucker in roll call entries) — yes; H — yes; Nath — yes. The board ratified the earlier annual resolution 04212601 setting elected-official compensation and also approved resolution 04212603, declaring public purpose for economic development expenditures. All recorded roll-call votes were unanimous in favor.
