GOSHEN board approves tenure for dozens of teachers at annual 'tenure night'

The GOSHEN CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT Board of Education on April 21 approved a slate of tenure appointments for teachers across the district following a special "tenure night" of presentations and testimonials.

Interim Superintendent Mr. San Bonjobi and school principals introduced and recommended staff from Scotchtown Avenue School, Ocean Intermediate School, CJ Hooker Middle School and Goshen High School. The board then approved the recommendations "upon the recommendation of the interim superintendent," with each resolution adopted by voice vote.

The appointments are effective Sept. 1, 2026, as stated in the motions presented to the board. Tenure recommendations named dozens of educators including Fallon Melvin (elementary), Trisha Sanders (guidance), Rick Sternoff (physical education), Annabelle Tabcar (elementary), Christina Urick (elementary), Michelle Mendes (elementary), Nina de Rosier (music), Tegan Kennedy (art), Brian Johnson (physical education), Elizabeth Ganon (home economics), Kesha Kempsey (English), Hunter Malain (social studies) and other school-based staff. Presenters highlighted work ranging from early‑childhood programming and literacy interventions to arts and career‑related counseling.

"Tonight is a celebration of major milestones and the long-term impact our teachers have on thousands of students," Interim Superintendent Mr. San Bonjobi said, thanking honorees for their service and leadership.

The board handled the approvals in a series of formal resolutions that the transcript records as voice approvals; the meeting did not record a roll‑call tally for each vote in the publicly available transcript. According to the motions read aloud, all approved tenures carry the common effective date of Sept. 1, 2026.

The board recessed for refreshments and photos before returning to complete the formal actions and continue with the rest of the agenda.
