EDC picks curved monument sign and approves conceptual landscaping for south lot

The Montgomery Economic Development Corporation on April 21 selected a curved monument-sign design for downtown and approved the general concept for landscaping of the south lot that frames the Liberty Tree and a star feature.
Designers presented three options for the monument sign and star. Board members rejected a 25-foot straight option as oversized for the intersection and discussed materials, lighting and pedestrian sight lines. After debate about curb cuts, photo opportunities and nearby poles, a board member moved to approve Option C, the curved design; the motion was seconded and carried (four yes, one no).
Board members also reviewed a conceptual plan for the south lot that includes gravel walkways, ground cover or low-maintenance turf alternatives, seating walls and a lighted star element aligned with the Liberty Tree. The landscaping approval was for the conceptual schematic only; staff and the landscape architect will bring 3D renderings and material specifications back to the board for final choices and bid documents.
The board discussed a separate proposal for a new digital sign near the existing corner at Prairie and FM 105. Staff cautioned about visibility and traffic-safety concerns at the intersection and suggested exploring alternative locations and lower-profile double-sided signs.
