Sussex County commissioners introduce multiple ordinances, adopt resolutions and approve contracts

The Sussex County Board of County Commissioners on April 22 introduced a series of ordinances for first reading, adopted multiple resolutions and approved several contract awards and bills by roll call.
The board introduced Ordinance 26-05, permitting reservation and use of the Newton Green, and Ordinance 26-06, establishing rules of conduct and decorum for public meetings; public hearings for those ordinances were set for May 13, 2026. The board also introduced bond and capital ordinances 26-01 through 26-04 — covering Sussex County Community College capital improvements, county capital projects, the Sussex County Career and Technical High School, and road and bridge improvements — and scheduled each for a May 13 hearing prior to final adoption.
Director Space said the ordinances are being advertised and posted in accordance with statutory notice requirements. Roll calls taken during the meeting recorded affirmative votes from the commissioners present on the introductions and on the slate of resolutions.
By roll call the board adopted resolutions A through Q, and subsequent contract-related resolutions (awards/change orders) that the clerk read into the record. The board also approved payment of bills list A and moved to approve bills list B; Deputy Director Degrroot was recorded as abstaining on bills list B during the roll call.
Other routine actions approved included the personnel agenda and motions to approve minutes for prior meetings. Several contract awards and capital project authorizations were included among the adopted items; Director Space and other commissioners noted that some projects are funded through New Jersey Department of Transportation grants and the county’s preservation/open-space trust fund.
What’s next: the introduced ordinances will return for public hearings and possible final adoption on May 13, 2026. Contractors and departments named in the adopted contract resolutions will proceed according to the award language recorded in the meeting packet.
