Rich Cannon, a candidate for North Brookfield Water Commissioner, told a town forum he has lived in North Brookfield most of his life and brings more than 25 years of water-industry experience to the office.
"My name is Rich Cannon. I am running for the North Brookfield Water Commissioner position this year," Cannon said, describing a career that included work as a water treatment operator and later as water superintendent. He said he has supervised operations, maintained and balanced annual budgets, and presented monthly updates to the water commissioners.
Cannon said the town’s water plant, completed in 2000, is "in good shape" now but cautioned that infrastructure does not last forever. He noted experience dealing with state inspections: "I've sat through like seven sanitary surveys which is a 3-year inspection... that's my goal. Make sure things are done right. Work together," he said.
Asked about financing for major projects, Cannon said small towns can struggle to pay for costly mandates and advised pursuing state representatives and senators for assistance: "These things cost a lot of money... they don't help you find the money," he said, urging outreach to state officials for funding support.
Cannon closed by asking for voters’ support and saying his experience and local knowledge would help him represent water users in town if elected. The forum concluded with reminders of the town election on Monday, May 4.
