Superintendent and trustees highlight CAASPP gains, dual‑language success and city purchase of Harvest site

The Napa Valley Unified School District superintendent told the board the district is seeing gains in the 2025 CAASPP (CA School Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) in English language arts, mathematics and science based on internal reviews, but the California Department of Education has embargoed the public release of the scores.
"NVUSD demonstrated growth in all three tested content areas: English language arts, mathematics, and science," the superintendent said, adding the district will present the official results after the state lifts the embargo.
Trustees used their reports to highlight site visits, community engagement and programmatic progress. During trustee remarks one member reported that the City of Napa has approved purchasing the district property most recently known as Harvest Middle School and expressed optimism that the city will seek community input on reuse plans. The board did not take any formal action on the property at this meeting.
The board also celebrated progress in the district's dual-language immersion pathway. The superintendent said site validation visits were completed as part of the California School Boards Association (CSBA) Golden Bell review process; if validated, NVUSD will be recognized at the CSBA annual conference in Sacramento and locally at the district’s January board meeting.
Business services reported a current enrollment of 16,086 students (73 students below the projection of 16,159) and reminded families that open enrollment for the 2026–27 school year runs Oct. 15 through Nov. 30. Transportation staff briefed the board on routing changes tied to the Harvest site transition and the relocation of bus stops for more than 150 students.
The superintendent and assistant superintendents also described ongoing initiatives: an MTSS pilot across 10 schools, the launch of a health and wellness committee, HR screenings and training opportunities, and an AI policy council scheduled to meet soon to develop recommendations for district use of artificial intelligence.
The board's next regular meeting is set for Oct. 23 (the superintendent said the public release of CAASPP results is expected by that meeting), and staff were asked to return with required public materials once the embargo is lifted.
