Britney Hart told the commission that Polk County has requested that Winter Haven assume ownership of Boy Club Road, a two-lane county road about 2,000 feet long that lies entirely within city limits.
Hart said pavement, recently installed sidewalks adjacent to a new school, and drainage infrastructure are in good condition, and staff recommended the commission approve the transfer. She noted there would be no immediate financial impact from the transfer but that the city would assume long-term maintenance responsibility.
Commissioners asked follow-up questions about other county roads under consideration for transfer and about a separate Sage Road right-of-way dedication tied to a PUD. Staff said each county-to-city transfer is considered case-by-case and that the city generally expects dedicated upgrades before accepting roads so it is not left with unexpected maintenance burdens.
No final action was taken at the agenda-review session; the transfer was presented as an item for the full meeting.
