Jay Wilshire was sworn in as a member of the Woodland Community Consolidated School District 50 Board of Education during the board's April 23 meeting.
"I, Jay Wilshire, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of a member of the Board of Education for Woodland Community Consolidated School District 50," Wilshire recited while taking the oath administered at the district podium.
Board members initially planned a closed session but withdrew the motion so they could seat the arriving appointee. After the oath and brief remarks, the board completed a formal roll call to enter and later to return from closed session.
The swearing-in included standard language committing Wilshire to uphold the U.S. and Illinois constitutions, to respect taxpayer interests, and to recognize that board authority rests with a majority vote at a public meeting. Colleagues and members of the public applauded following the oath.
The meeting then proceeded with the published agenda, including recognitions, presentations, and multiple routine personnel and contract actions. The board adjourned after completing its business.
Next steps: Wilshire will serve on the board in the same capacity as other appointed or elected members; any committee assignments or specific responsibilities to be announced at a later meeting.
