Volunteers for the Town of Hubbardston told the facilities committee that recent fundraising efforts produced modest proceeds and that planning is underway for several community events.
Organizers reported $275 in cash collected at a recent metal recycling fundraiser; final proceeds depend on the scrap yard's weight-based payout, officials said. "They will weigh it and send us a check," a committee member said. The Templeton scrap facility was identified as the drop-off site for the town's materials.
The committee confirmed the plant sale is scheduled for May 9 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and encouraged sellers to favor native plants and avoid known invasives. Members noted that volunteers will need to staff the Meeting House restroom that day and discussed whether a volunteer could be on-site to keep the building secure while allowing restroom access.
Katie Young told the committee that she is covering the cost of a bouncy house for the summer Hub Celebration from the Hub Celebration fund; the event is scheduled for June 6 at the Curtis Rec Field.
Committee members discussed options for increasing revenue at future metal recycling fundraisers by separating copper, motors and sheet metal before weighing. They also noted existing town options—year-round dumpsters supported by other local groups and the DPW—could affect future fundraisers.
No formal expenditures were approved at the meeting; committee members agreed to continue coordinating event logistics, to track final proceeds from the recycling pick-up, and to develop wristband/ticket options for small festivals.
