County approves expanded chip-seal project; added county share $1.39 million

Brandon Frell of County Engineering told the Williams County Board of County Commissioners on April 21 that a contractor agreed to hold bid prices while the county increased quantities to add more county roads to a planned chip-seal project. Frell said the county’s additional share for the expanded work is $1,393,493.91.
He provided budget context: the engineer’s estimate for the whole project was roughly $5 million; the original bid came in at about $4.4 million and expanding the quantities brings the new total to roughly $5.876 million. Frell said these costs were absorbed because other projects came in under expected costs, leaving about $4 million available in remaining project funds.
The board considered whether the county had sufficient funds, noted the favorable bids, and a commissioner moved to approve Change Order No. 1 (plan revision). A second was given and the motion passed on a unanimous roll call.
The change order authorizes added quantities and the county share of the increase, and staff will proceed with contracts and scheduling to complete the additional 160 miles (approximate project length as stated by staff) of work.
