Residents say open-house notice for land-use meetings was hard to find

During public comment, a resident who identified herself as Shirley told the council she had been unable to find notice of an April 21 virtual open house about the land use process and that the time had not appeared in email notifications or on the city or planning commission agendas. "I really doubt that the public knows anything about that and especially the time for that meeting," she said, adding she regularly circulates notices and had been frustrated at not finding details.
Another resident, identifying himself as "Mike B 560 Road," echoed Shirley’s concerns and thanked staff member Caleb for quick email responses while urging clearer advance notice so more residents and businesses can participate.
In response, a city staff member said the April 21 event had been on the project calendar for several months and that the start time is 5:00 p.m.; staff also acknowledged that the April 29 utilities open house had been placed on the calendar that afternoon and agreed to continue outreach, including social-media blasts and other notifications. Councilors discussed whether to delay an event to allow more notice but staff advised against postponing the April 21 open house because it had already been advertised through project channels.
Staff reiterated that the virtual open house will be held via Zoom with slides and an online activity for input; those unable to attend will be able to provide feedback on the project website after the session.
The council took no formal action on the public comments but directed staff to continue outreach ahead of the virtual open house and to post clear time and access instructions.
