RCC reports strong turnout for April recycling events, tallies 11,000 lb paper and 10,000 lb electronics

Ben reported event collection totals and volunteer turnout for recent city events: the shred event collected about 11,000 pounds of paper and just over 10,000 pounds of electronics; the electronics turnout required steady unloading and large volunteer efforts. Waterway cleanup efforts across sites produced roughly 10–12 bags of trash at one coordinated cleanup with about 12–15 volunteers; turnout varied by site but organizers called the events successful.
Commissioners noted that community interest supports repeating and expanding outreach and discussed a tentative date for the fall shred/electronics collection (Sept. 19). They also discussed ways to better quantify cleanup results (weights vs. bag counts) and opportunities to recruit businesses and the Chamber of Commerce for larger corporate participation. Volunteers and staff were thanked for handling heavy volumes and for efficient operations that prevented accidents and minimized disruption.
The commission will continue to plan outreach and consider postcard or magnet mailings and other promotional tactics to broaden attendance for upcoming events.
