The South Russell Village Architectural Review Board on April 21 approved three residential exterior projects after brief presentations and requests for minor clarifications.
The approvals came after presenters described materials, window placements and roof work for each property and board members confirmed finishes and site details. The projects were: a resubmission for a rear-of-house alteration at 55 Maple Drive; a 10-foot front-porch addition at 951 Bell Road; and exterior changes and a habitable addition to a three-car garage at 1101 Bell Road.
Ron Bernberg of RNR Renovations presented the 55 Maple Drive resubmission, describing changes made since the earlier filing and pointing to added windows and material updates on the elevations. “When we made the changes that you guys were looking for,” Bernberg said while walking the board through the revised drawings, noting the applicants will clean existing brick and replace the roof. Board members asked about the location of existing windows and finishes; the board moved to approve the resubmission after the clarifications.
At 951 Bell Road, architect Kevinia said the front porch has an approved variance and will extend about 10 feet and roughly 41 feet across the house front. Board members raised a concern that the new front gable sits close to the second-floor window sill and asked that the roof pitch be altered in the field to provide a few inches of clearance beneath the sill. The board approved the project with that noted modification.
Richard Brown presented the work at 1101 Bell Road, which includes board-and-batten siding, replacement windows and converting some crawl spaces in connection with a habitable addition to an existing garage. The board described the plans as straightforward and approved the application.
Procedural items at the start of the meeting included approval of the minutes from the March 17, 2026 ARB meeting. Jim Hos volunteered to serve as an alternate; board members also thanked Secretary Ruth for her six years of service screening submissions before they reach the agenda.
The board adjourned at 5:56:27 p.m. after noting two of the three applications were resubmittals and had been revised to respond to earlier comments.
