Kent mayor highlights Kiwanis flood grants, community events and safe disposal days

Kent Mayor Dana Ralph used the city’s weekly update to thank volunteers and community groups, announce local relief and public-safety events, and remind residents about construction updates and city programs.
"A huge shout out to the AM Kiwanis Club," Mayor Dana Ralph said, describing a Kiwanis and Kiwanis Foundation grant that provided checks to three residents hardest hit by December flooding; she noted one recipient must replace an uninsured furnace. Ralph said the grants will "go a long way for those recipients."
Ralph also highlighted recent volunteer efforts, including the Earth Day "Green Kent" event at Clark Lake Park where volunteers removed invasive species, and thanked Parks Department staff and volunteers for supporting the Kids Day "Boots and Blooms" planting activity at the YMCA. She congratulated Kent Little League on opening day at Brian Brunner Field and extended best wishes to players for the season.
The mayor recapped a Coffee and Conversation session at Woods Coffee on East Hill as an opportunity for residents to ask questions and receive updates from city departments. At a recent City Council meeting, she said the Kentshires neighborhood was recognized and welcomed into the city’s neighborhood program, which offers grant and event support; information is available at kentwa.gov.
Ralph reminded residents that the city is in construction season, advising people to sign up for project alerts at drivekent.com for text and email notices about road closures and work. She also promoted two upcoming community disposal events: a medicine take-back at City Hall on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — described as a "no questions asked" drop-off for unused or expired prescriptions — and a mini recycling event at Kent United Methodist on May 8 from 9 a.m. to noon (details at kentwa.gov/talkingtrash).
