Promoter seeks $45,000 subsidy for downtown Clint Black concert; commission asks for formal application

Ben Goldsmith, with KM Sports & Entertainment, told the Texarkana Advertising & Promotion Commission he is under contract to bring Clint Black to a downtown Front Street concert on Sept. 12 and is requesting $45,000 in city support.
Goldsmith said the event budget is roughly $190,000 and that the promoter expects to sell 5,500 to 6,000 tickets based on the artist’s recent sales; he said his company will allocate about $28,000 to marketing and plans to use local vendors and food trucks where possible. Goldsmith told commissioners he has the artist committed and is working with radio partners and local promoters to line up tickets and logistics.
Commissioners emphasized that KM Sports must complete the formal AMP funding application (including financial statements and three-to-five years of financials if available) before the commission can act. Staff and counsel noted there is time to convene a special meeting if the application is completed on an expedited schedule; Goldsmith said he hoped to announce ticket sales in late May and would work with staff to supply the requested documents.
Council members raised standard concerns about the size of the subsidy relative to expected vendor and hotel benefits and requested detailed expense breakdowns once KM Sports files its application. No funding decision was made at the meeting.
