New Haven highlights science partnerships and student awards; district inducts nine 'spotlight educators'

Superintendent Dr. Negron used the May 11 meeting to spotlight district instructional work and student achievement. He described a partnership with the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History that has enabled more than 4,000 New Haven students to visit museum exhibits and participate in hands‑on science workshops this year.
"Spotlight educators center student thinking, embrace inquiry and exploration, and use evidence to guide instruction," Negron said as he introduced the district's inaugural cohort of nine spotlight educators and read testimonials from participating teachers and schools.
Negron also announced that ESOM students Titila Dula Adeniran and Sahana Bandadi Alexander won first place in the documentary category at the Connecticut History Day state competition and will represent Connecticut at the National History Day contest at the University of Maryland, College Park.
The superintendent recognized James Hill House High School art teachers who created a student art wing and praised other classroom‑level innovations. Board members and the superintendent framed these recognitions as examples of instructional strength even amid broader fiscal challenges.
