Vallejo school board approves consent items, introduces new managers and hears spring school showcase reports

The Vallejo City Unified School District board convened April 27 and approved the consent calendar, received a quarterly Williams settlement report, and featured a slate of new district managers and school-site leaders who were introduced to the board following their approval earlier on the agenda.
During open session the board recorded a series of standard votes: the recommendation related to a closed-session student-discipline matter (case 2026-STP04) was approved following a motion by Trustee Fox and a second from Trustee Young; the agenda and the consent calendar (items 6A–6M) each passed on roll-call votes with five members in favor.
Superintendent Matt Chamberlain introduced several new district administrators — Marin Trillo Quas (Executive Director of Operations), Edwin Diaz and Joanna Turner (Assistant Directors of Business Services), Hattie Kagami (Executive Director of Human Resources) and Mara Harris (HR coordinator) — and reminded the public these appointments were approved as part of the consent agenda. The board also acknowledged newly appointed site principals and vice principals for multiple campuses.
Assistant Superintendent Tobasio presented the William settlement uniform complaint report for Jan. 1–March 31, 2026, saying two facilities complaints listed in the report had been resolved prior to filing and that the report would be forwarded to the Solano County Office of Education.
The evening’s primary substantive time was taken up by spring showcase presentations from 10 district schools. Highlights included Grace Patterson Elementary reporting enrollment near 377–380 students, a 1% suspension rate, and a multi-year decline in chronic absenteeism (from about 42% to about 32%). Cave Language Academy described strong dual-immersion outcomes and steady attendance at roughly 94–95%. Glen Cove, Lincoln, Wardlaw, Solano Weedman Leadership Academy and Vallejo Charter each described literacy and math interventions (notably UFLY adoption and structured student talk), varying levels of assessment gains, and an emphasis on family and community partnerships. At the secondary level, Hogan Middle School and Vallejo High School emphasized transition and college/career readiness programs, AVID expansion, targeted interventions for students with D/F grades and efforts to reduce suspensions; Jesse Bethel High School reported credit-on-track gains and active CTE and dual-enrollment programming.
Board members asked questions about absenteeism drivers, supports for English learners and students with IEPs, and transportation concerns raised for one elementary school’s families. The meeting concluded with announcements of upcoming special meetings and the regular May 13 board meeting.
What’s next: The board will meet again on May 13; staff follow-ups were requested on items raised during school presentations (attendance, transportation and SER-related public comments).
