Republic council approves two ordinances, certifies election results and appoints mayor pro tem

The Republic City Council on April 21 completed several routine but consequential actions, including final passage of two ordinances, certification of municipal election results and the appointment of a mayor pro tem.

Council gave final passage to Bill 26-12, amending Title 4 (land use) chapter 410 on access management of the municipal code, and to Bill 26-14, which rezones roughly 18.49 acres near the 900 block of Colorado Avenue to the Frisco Commons Plan Development District and included an amendment to fix the second-reading date. The clerk read each ordinance by title before the council moved and voted; the transcript records the outcomes as “Motion carries 70” (Bill 26-12) and “Motion carries 61 to zero” (Bill 26-14).

The council also adopted Resolution 26-R9, declaring the certified results from the April 7 municipal election. Staff reported the elected candidates as Justin Shaw, Darren Campbell, Brian Fields and Daniel Harter. Following the certification, the newly elected members were sworn in.

Council members nominated and voted to appoint Eric Gerky as mayor pro tem after a nomination and second; the transcript records the vote result as “Motion carries. 700.”

Council also approved Resolution 26-R10, a preliminary plat for Walker Heights, a residential subdivision described in staff materials as roughly 40.45 acres with 101 lots, new roads and a looped water system. Staff recommended approval on the basis of utility capacity, stormwater detention design and absence of sinkholes or floodplain on the site.

The council handled the items in the meeting’s consent and regular calendars and moved on to additional zoning applications and staff reports later in the agenda. The meeting adjourned after mayoral remarks and community announcements.
