Staff said earlier language produced confusion by appearing to require Parade of Champions attendance plus two local parades; the clarified text now states championship athletic teams must attend the Parade of Champions and other groups must attend three parades (the Parade of Champions, the Tangipahoa Parish Fair Parade and one additional local parade) unless they obtain an approved waiver.
Principals will certify whether teams and coaches met participation requirements; Miss Stilly was named as the staff official to review and apply any deductions for nonparticipation, staff said. Committee members discussed waivers for legitimate conflicts such as national competitions and asked that the parade date be set early so athletic programs can plan schedules accordingly.
During the discussion, Mr. Mingus was reported to have proposed making the Parade of Champions day a 'dead Saturday' with no other activities, but the transcript records no formal motion text, second or vote on that proposal.
