Shelton council adopts updated 2025 comprehensive plan with climate element

Council adopted Ordinance 2038-1025 updating Shelton’s comprehensive plan, including a new climate change and resiliency element; staff said only minor clarifications were requested by the state and code amendments will follow in coming months.
Senior Planner Jason Dose told the council the comprehensive-plan update has been the product of a multi-year effort involving a steering committee of council and community members and that the draft chapters had been shared with the state Department of Commerce for the required review. Dose said the state sent comments that required clarifications but "no substantial changes have been made to the plan."
Dose described the next 6–12 months of work to adopt several code amendments that implement the plan, including updates for accessory dwelling units, utility rates and affordable housing to reflect new state laws. After discussion, the council moved, seconded and adopted Ordinance 2038-1025 on its second and final reading, authorizing staff to submit the plan to the state for final approval.
Council members thanked staff and volunteers for the lengthy process and noted the plan’s climate change and resiliency element as a key addition. The vote was recorded as a voice vote and the motion carried.
