Perryton ISD FCCLA chapter earns state honors; students place at region and state competitions

Perryton ISD trustees heard a series of student recognitions Wednesday as the district honored members of its FCCLA chapter and other extracurricular achievers.
Superintendent Mr. Brown introduced Stacy Tanner, the FCCLA sponsor, who said the chapter sent 14 members to region competition and that the chapter was again recognized as a "gold chapter" in Texas FCCLA for community service, peer education and competitive results. Tanner also reported that eight members completed the Rose Legacy Award and that three students reached the program's highest level.
Several students described their projects. Student Jaylen Apple said he competed in fashion construction, creating a hand‑ and machine‑sewn dress and placed second at region to advance to state. Rosa Lopez Uribe and Abraham Gonzalez described a joint professional presentation project about mental health for middle and high school students; they advanced in region and to state. Tanner said the chapter sent 12 students for FCCLA testing at state and earned nine gold medals and three silver medals among those testers.
Other recognitions included choir and music ratings, PHS milk quality team qualifying for state, and national powerlifting placings and champions. The district also noted students advancing to state in the dual‑language spelling bee: Brian Martinez will compete in El Paso on June 4.
Trustees did not take any action beyond recognition. The awards were presented as part of the superintendent's report and included thanks to staff and community volunteers who assisted student teams.
