Perrysburg board honors dozens of students for academic and extracurricular achievements

The Perrysburg Exempted Village School District board on April 26 recognized a long list of student achievements, from academic honors to state-level athletic and co-curricular qualifiers.

Dr. Folultz of Parisburg High School introduced the class leaders: salutatorian Nina Rando, who had a 7th-semester GPA of 4.527 and a 34 ACT; and valedictorian Kate Woo, who posted a cumulative GPA of 4.664 and also scored a 34 on the ACT. Dr. Folultz said both students are headed to selective next steps: Rando to Ohio State University and Woo to Harvard University.

Administrators also celebrated other high achievers. Hannah Davies received public recognition for a perfect composite 36 on the ACT. Several students earned National Merit distinctions, and multiple musicians were accepted to regional and Allstate ensembles.

Coaches and volunteer mentors were on hand to present awards for the district’s mock trial and speech and debate teams. Scott Hicks, who identified himself as a longtime assistant chief public defender for Wood County, praised the mock trial students and noted multiple outstanding witness and attorney awards as the teams advanced to state competition.

The athletic department highlighted a number of winter-season accomplishments, including a first-ever boys state wrestling championship for Perrysburg and multiple individual state qualifiers in swimming and gymnastics. The board and attendees gave coaches and students rounds of applause and posed for photos.

The board’s public recognition segment also included honors for long-serving coaches and staff, including Todd Sims and Rob Ross for decades of service to the girls basketball program.

The board concluded the item by thanking coaches, staff and families and inviting the community to attend upcoming events that feature many of the honored students.
