At 12905 Delmare Street, homeowners Brienne Durham and Darren Wanderer told the board they recently closed on the property and want a six‑foot wood fence around most of the lot to keep a 65‑pound Belgian Malinois safe and to provide an area for exercise. Durham said two previously existing 4‑foot fences on their lot “are no longer being able to be repaired,” and the proposed layout leaves a two‑foot maintenance gap adjacent to neighbors’ fences. Staff confirmed mail notices were sent and reported no objections; the board approved the exception by voice vote.
At 3904 West 128th Street, applicant Cara Sherwood asked the board to allow a six‑foot privacy fence to sit on the property line so a planned pool and to protect existing landscaping. Sherwood said earlier measures had been taken in February and the current request clarifies that the fence should be on the property line to preserve mature trees and to avoid leaving landscaping inaccessible; staff again reported no calls or concerns. The board approved the through‑lot fence placement by voice vote.
Both approvals were handled as exceptions under the Leawood Development Ordinance; staff said the requests met the standard for an exception (each request was under the 20% threshold used to distinguish exceptions from variances). The board said written notices would be sent to the applicants as usual.
