Mike Rulli summarized a yearlong, district‑wide process to renew the district’s mission and vision and explained why the team chose a single, clear 'commitment' statement rather than separate mission and vision sentences.
Rulli said the process solicited input from board members, students, families, staff and the wider community and that the themes that rose to the top were community and relationships. He said students emphasized engaging and enjoyable activities, families prioritized strong academic instruction and clear communication, and staff emphasized family engagement, career readiness and rigorous academics.
Rulli read the draft district commitment statement to the board:
"Newman Crows Landing schools are committed to welcoming inclusive learning environments where students feel supported, cared for, and connected. Students are prepared for future success through strong character, meaningful relationships, continuous academic growth, and real‑world learning."
Rulli proposed next steps including site‑level commitment statements, an impact report to inform the public, and updated district communications and branding. Superintendent Pruitt and trustees praised the community engagement and encouraged board members to promote the message.
The presentation was informational and no formal action was taken; board members were invited to participate in rollout and communication activities.
