The Campbell City Council approved two routine finance items on April 21: a 2% increase in business license tax rates for fiscal year 2027 and a citywide fee schedule update.
Michael Nakamura, the city's accounting clerk, presented the business license proposal, noting that a 2% change would add roughly $14,000 to projected annual business-license receipts for a total of about $714,000 if adopted. The council introduced an ordinance to amend Campbell Municipal Code provisions and waived further reading before voting unanimously to move the measure forward.
Finance staff member Shannon Dragman recommended a standard 2.18% CPI adjustment for most city fees and a small set of department-specific updates to better align fees with actual cost recovery; staff estimated the package would generate about $225,000 for FY2027 if adopted. Council asked a brief question about considering impact fees for commercial and multifamily development, then unanimously adopted the schedule.
Both the business-license changes and the FY2027 fee schedule are scheduled to take effect July 1, 2026.
