North Paulding girls crowned state champions; dozens of students recognized by board

The Paulding County Board of Education used the public portion of its meeting to honor student achievement across the district, highlighted by recognition of the North Paulding High School girls basketball team after its state championship run.
Assistant Superintendent Greg Musgrove and Mr. Barnett introduced the Lady Wolfpack and summarized the season: the team finished 30–2, went 11–1 in region play and 12–0 at home, and defeated the defending state champion Newton twice. Mr. Barnett noted junior Morgan Landrum was named player of the game in the title match, finishing with 17 points and 21 rebounds.
Coach Wesley Willis told attendees the team’s success rested on cohesion. "The biggest thing I say about this group is that they're a family," he said. "Sometimes it's me, sometimes it's you, but it's always us." Players answered questions from the dais about the work behind the title: senior Amaya Lee Cott said it "takes hard work, dedication, and preparation," and Kaylee Hinson called being part of the legacy "something I'll cherish forever."
Beyond athletics, the board recognized an array of student achievements: character award winners for fairness and tolerance from elementary and middle schools; winners of the Central Office gallery art contest and middle school art display; dozens of All-State Chorus, Band, Theater and Art honorees from schools across the district; winter-sports players of the year; Georgia Governor's Honors Program finalists; the Paulding Child Advocacy Center Pinwheel contest district winner; and Lucas Dyer as the district's 2026 Spelling Bee champion.
The board played a short video clip from the state championship and invited the team, coaches and families onstage for recognition and photos. Board members repeatedly praised the students and staff and closed the meeting with congratulations.

Many recognized students will advance to regional or state-level events (for example, the Spelling Bee regional competition in Rome). The district also highlighted ongoing partnerships—such as with the Paulding Child Advocacy Center—that accompany the recognitions.
