Board OKs street closures for Minnetrista events and Urban Light community celebration

The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety on April 22 approved street‑closure permits for several community events organized by Minnetrista Museum and Gardens and Urban Light Community Church.
Kirsten Novotny of Minnetrista told the board the Ball Brothers Foundation Centennial on May 14 will use the Boulevard as a safety area; Minnetrista also applied to close streets for its Fairy Frights and Lights evening event and for the Enchanted Luminary Walk on Dec. 4–5. “They are using the entire Boulevard, and so we want to make sure that everyone's safe,” Novotny said.
Pastor Wesley McCrorie described Urban Light’s July 10 celebration, which will take place mainly in the church parking lot and the property across the street and requires closing 7th Street so organizers can run a health fair and other activities. The board moved and seconded approval of the Minnetrista applications together and separately approved the Urban Light application; members praised the events as community‑oriented and free to attend.
City staff will sign the approved documents after the meeting. Organizers were told to pick up signed permits and to ensure any required safety plans are in place before the events.
