The McHenry City Council adopted the fiscal year 2026–27 budget following a brief public hearing that produced no public speakers. Alderman Dhy moved to adopt the budget and Alderman Cook seconded; the motion passed on a roll-call vote of five in favor, two opposed.
Alderwoman Bassie said she would vote no, telling colleagues she opposed the package because it includes a sewer and water rate increase, “another $120,000 bailout to the rec center, two third‑party concept plans for parks, and excessive TIF spending beyond what the TIF fund will generate.” The clerk recorded votes of yes from Dhy, Cook, Miller, Davis and Baney; Bassie and Glad voted no.
The council opened the public hearing at about 7:02 p.m. and, after hearing no comments, moved to close the hearing before taking the adoption vote. No further amendments or formal directions to staff were recorded on the floor.
With the roll call completed, the budget ordinance was adopted and will move into the city’s administrative implementation process. The council did not attach a timeline or additional reporting requirements on the record during the meeting.
