New Providence Police honored for sixth reaccreditation; borough lauds standards

Harry Delgado, who oversees reaccreditation for the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, told the Borough Council that the New Providence Police Department has achieved a sixth reaccreditation, placing the agency among roughly the top 1.8% of eligible agencies in the state.

"This prestigious six reaccreditation status demonstrates Chief Daniel H's firm commitment to state and national standards and the continued expectations for quality, professional, and ethical policing at the New Providence Police Department," Delgado said, reading excerpts from the assessment team's report and presenting a certificate.

Lieutenant Don Strattonic, the accreditation manager, accepted the recognition on behalf of the department and told the council the accomplishment reflects sustained work by officers and staff. "To all indeed, congratulations," Strattonic said.

In his remarks, Delgado summarized the accreditation program's purpose: to provide objective evidence of leadership, resource management and service delivery, and to encourage standardized policies that can improve public safety and operational readiness.

Mayor Ian Morgan and multiple council members joined in congratulating the department during the meeting. The council did not take further action on the accreditation; the presentation served as official recognition of the assessment team's recommendation and the department's continued compliance with the accreditation commission's standards.

The accreditation was presented during the council's regular business session; the borough did not publish specific next steps for policy changes tied to the reaccreditation during this meeting.
