The Calabasas City Council on April 22 approved staff recommendations to refine fees and guest rates at the city’s Tennis & Swim Center after a post‑implementation report. Community Services staff reported that the January 1 fee restructuring has so far reduced total memberships from 3,332 to 2,525, included about 200 cancellations and more than 110 new memberships, and produced an early increase in monthly membership revenue of roughly 10 percent.
Staff said they also cleared entries from a long wait list: outreach to about 1,300 contacts reduced the list from approximately 4,547 to roughly 3,200 by removing duplicates and ineligible entries and by converting some wait‑listers into active members. Staff noted investments of about $1 million already completed (court resurfacing, LED lighting, pool replaster, deck replacement, lobby updates, HVAC and fitness equipment) and identified two major infrastructure needs — 1968 electrical panels and galvanized water lines — with replacement estimates exceeding $1 million.
In response to member feedback, staff recommended establishing a senior guest fee (accompanied guest of a member) of $10 on weekdays and $13 on weekends and a reduced visiting‑player fee for sanctioned tennis league opponents at the same rate. Staff said league visiting teams had flagged the center’s prior guest fee as relatively high compared with regional facilities. The council unanimously approved the proposal and asked staff to continue monthly monitoring of membership trends and to report back on usage, turnover and capital needs.
Community Services Director Erica Green and facility staff said the city would keep monitoring cancellations, downgrades and upgrades between membership tiers to manage facility capacity and wait‑list progress. Councilmembers suggested improved member communications, signage noting recent capital investments, and pursuing targeted facility improvements (a fitness studio refresh and an outdoor multipurpose fitness area) when funds permit.
The council voted 5–0 to implement the fee additions and directed staff to update the citywide fee schedule accordingly.
