The board recognized a corporate donation and community partnership: Justina Lafitte, community relations advisor for Torrance Refinery Company, presented a $17,000 check as the presenting sponsor of the district’s Girls in STEAM Cardboard Regatta and noted the company had provided $60,000 to support the California Invention Convention and Innovation Festival held over the weekend.
"On behalf of our company, the Torrance Refinery Company, I'm pleased to present the check in the amount of $17,000 as the presenting sponsor of this year's Girls in STEAM Cardboard Regatta," Justina Lafitte said when she addressed trustees. She described the refinery’s interest in promoting STEAM careers and thanked district staff and community partners, including El Camino College, for hosting the festival.
Trustees and staff thanked the company and noted strong student participation at the Innovation Festival.
