Council approves higher property and liability insurance renewal for 2026–27
Summary

City Manager Jacob Evans presented the proposed 2026–2027 property and liability insurance renewal to the council, noting the new annual premium is $86,735 compared with roughly $75,000 last year. Evans said the increase reflected a $4.4 million rise in city values and replacement-cost estimates, which drove the higher quote.
"This is to request approval for the 2026 to 2027 property and liability insurance coverage renewal. Last year it was $75,000 and some change. This year it is $86,735. The reason for the cost going up is our values and replacement cost also increased by $4.4 million," Evans said.
Council Member Mark French moved to approve the renewal; Council Member Sandy Sawyer seconded. During discussion, council asked whether other market options exist; staff confirmed Dawsonville has used the Georgia Interlocal Risk Management Agency (GIRMA) for many years and said they will solicit additional quotes to ensure competitiveness for next year's coverage.
The council voted to approve the renewal as presented. No amendment to coverage or limits was recorded in the meeting minutes. Finance staff will include the new premium in the FY2026–27 budget planning and continue exploring alternatives ahead of the next renewal.
