The Alexander City Council unanimously approved several routine resolutions and contract actions during its meeting.
Council awarded bid number 26-06 to GMC Underground and Southern Directional for natural gas contract services used for emergency steel-line repairs, directional drilling and fittings. Councilmembers said the award provides an additional vendor should the primary contractor be unavailable; a resolution to authorize the award passed 6-0.
The council also approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to enter an agreement with the Alabama Department of Corrections to allow use of inmates through a rehabilitative work program for property maintenance tasks such as mowing and weeding. Council members clarified the program is not event-specific, that inmates do not operate heavy equipment and that placements require custody and vetting by the department. The resolution passed 6-0.
Other routine motions on the agenda, including approval of meeting minutes and the amended agenda, passed without dissent.
