Board approves substitute pay increase, 2026–27 fees, esports stipend and furniture package

On the consent agenda trustees approved routine items listed for the meeting. Later in new business, the board heard a third‑quarter financial briefing from the finance director showing the district at about 75% of the fiscal year; capital projects have progressed faster than projected, with $17.3 million paid on a roughly $21 million project target.
The board approved increasing certified substitute teacher pay from $130 to $135 per day, a change trustees said was intended to remain competitive in the local recruitment market. The motion to raise substitute pay was made by John and passed on roll call.
Trustees also approved the 2026–27 school year fee schedule, which includes a 10‑cent increase to school breakfast and school lunch prices; other fee changes were highlighted in the attached fee form. The board discussed minimal operational impacts and noted the decision was part of routine annual updates.
The board authorized a discretionary stipend for the GEMS esports program for the 2026–27 school year, noting the program is active and students are competing at the present time. Trustees described the stipend as an early calendar approval to ensure staffing and scheduling for the upcoming season.
Finally, the board approved the high school furniture package. Administrators said they had evaluated multiple vendors, planned to reuse existing furniture where appropriate and stayed within the board‑approved budget. The furniture order will outfit areas not available in the old building (for example some library fixtures) and cover bulk orders for move‑in this summer.
All motions were approved by roll call; minutes show motions were regularly moved by John and seconded by other trustees (second named when so stated). Where roll call names were read, trustees voted in the affirmative and no controversial opposition was recorded. Several items (capital purchases and fee schedule) will be reflected in upcoming purchasing and budget entries.
