The Elk Grove Unified School District board voted unanimously May 4 to rename the Elk Grove High School M building the Weaver Albiani Agricultural Building, honoring two longtime agriculture teachers whose leadership helped build one of the region’s most successful FFA programs.
Mr. Schwitzer introduced the proposal and said the naming process followed board policy and educational‑partner consultation. He told the board the recommendation recognizes “outstanding leadership” by Warren Weaver and Mike Albiani and invited the honorees and current students to the podium.
Student speakers and alumni described the program’s competitive successes and broad impact. One speaker said Weaver’s career began in 1970 and listed student achievements under his tenure, including hundreds of state FFA degrees and numerous state championships. Another described Albiani as a protégé of Weaver who later secured more than $500,000 in grants to expand curriculum, facilities and student opportunities.
Board members moved and seconded the staff recommendation. With no blue‑card public comments on the item, the board took a recorded vote and approved the renaming unanimously.
Why it matters: The vote formalizes recognition for two educators whose work the district credited with increasing student participation in agricultural education, improving career‑technical outcomes and attracting grant funding for curriculum and facilities. The new name is intended to preserve the pair’s legacy in the school’s farm and instructional facilities.
What’s next: The board asked staff to arrange a photo opportunity with the honorees and invited community members to attend a naming celebration and ribboning. The district will update campus signage and facility records to reflect the Weaver Albiani Agricultural Building designation.
