Superintendent Dr. Murray told the board on Jan. 6 that fifth graders at Alberta Smith Elementary participated in a hands-on "Game of Life" career-exploration activity designed to introduce students to different career paths and workplace scenarios.
Dr. Murray described the event as interactive: students visited multiple stations, selected careers and used a play "wallet" to track outcomes such as promotions or unexpected expenses. He credited the school's resource team and teachers for organizing the event and noted participation from coaches and community partners.
Separately, Dr. Murray reminded the community that the district is in budget season and that town halls will begin at the end of January; he encouraged community participation in the budget-development process.
Board members later praised the Alberta Smith program and congratulated school leadership for the activity. The board's next meeting on budget matters is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2026.
