School board names new administrators and recognizes students, staff and community partners

The Chesterfield County school board on April 8 approved three administrative appointments and used the meeting to recognize multiple students, staff and community partners.
Superintendent Dr. Murray asked Jasmine Carpenter, Daniel Gardner and Benjamin Schindler to come forward after the board’s approval action. Carpenter was approved as director of curriculum development and support — elementary, effective May 27, 2025; Daniel Gardner was approved as principal (effective July 1, 2025); and Benjamin Schindler was approved as a high school principal (effective July 1, 2025). The board recorded the personnel action as part of the consent/appointment process.
The board also honored five Chesterfield students nominated for the 2025 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, and recognized Mon High’s girls swim and dive team for winning a VHSL Class 4 state championship and setting/ breaking state-class records. Students and coaches accepted applause and briefly reflected on their seasons and achievements.
Several Food Nutrition Services staff and school cafeterias received statewide recognition from the School Nutrition Association of Virginia: Tracy Llewellyn was named manager of the year; Ronnie Lapel was named administrator of the year; Dr. Lisa Hill received friend-of-the-association honors; and Reamswood Elementary won a marketing award. Food service staff also were recognized for long service and program leadership.
Community partners — a parent center and St. Mark’s United Methodist Church — were recognized for their work supporting families of students with disabilities and for McKinney-Vento services for students experiencing homelessness. Representatives described food, clothing and housing assistance the organizations provide and thanked the board and McKinney-Vento staff for collaborative coordination.
Board members used the recognitions to highlight both student accomplishment and the role of staff and partners in supporting students’ basic needs and enrichment opportunities. The recognitions portion of the meeting concluded with applause and brief comments from honored guests and staff.
