Board approves calendar, salary schedule and staff-housing policy; multiple consent items carried

The calendar adopted follows community survey results: staff will report Aug. 3 and students will start Aug. 4, with the academic year ending the week before Memorial Day. On compensation, the board approved salary schedules that incorporate a 1% across-the-board raise and minor wording adjustments to contract days for certain positions. Board members asked for clearer position labels (for example, distinguishing lead custodial from custodial I/II and clarifying cook/assistant cook roles) before final posting.
The board also approved a staff-housing ("teacherage") policy that will make three units available beginning about July 1 subject to final unit turnover and attorney review. Under the policy presented, rents are tiered by unit and occupant: three-bedroom units would rent for $550 monthly to staff and $750 to community members; the two-bedroom single-wide trailer would be $450 for staff and $650 for community members; the principal and superintendent houses retain current rents until current tenants vacate, at which point the board will reassess. Priority for units is given to full-time employees and families with children who will enroll in Maxwell schools; leases will be one-year terms renewable up to three years without board approval, with any longer terms requiring board action. Utilities will be paid by tenants and lease terms will include upkeep, pet and other operational rules not contained in the high-level policy.
Several routine minutes and packet items were approved by voice vote. The board confirmed its next regular meeting for May 18 and noted graduation is set for May 16 at 10 a.m.
