Monticello council approves $1.664 million in motor-fuel-tax projects for oil-and-chip, access road and bridge removal

"This year the resolution is in the amount of $137,000," Jim said. The council approved Resolution 2026-25 by roll call.
The council also approved Resolution 2026-26 (BLR-09110), a $667,000 MFT request to construct a limited-use 4A access road across the railroad tracks along Old Route 47. Jim told the council the project funds the access road portion of a larger effort to reconfigure the Old Route 47 crossing. Council members clarified that the access road will be limited use and not open to general public traffic; the body approved the resolution by roll call.
Resolution 2026-27 (BLR-09110), approved the same evening, requests $860,000 in MFT funds to remove the existing bridge structure on Old Route 47 over the Sangamon River. Jim said the two BLR-09110 items are related and, coupled with the access road work, are intended to complete a long-standing bridge project. Council members expressed support for using the available state funds to finish the work and approved the resolution by roll call.
Terry Summers, the city administrator (noted in the packet), will sign the IDOT BLR forms after council approval to execute the expenditures. The resolutions reference the Illinois Highway Code BLR-09110 process and use Motor Fuel Tax funding lines identified in the city's supporting documents. The approvals permit staff to proceed with required state notice and contract steps; the council did not specify construction start dates in the meeting record.
