Marshall district outlines middle-school parking-lot redesign, aims for mid‑August completion

Operations staff (Trisha and the facilities team) described the design changes: a single in/out flow with a “pork chop” entrance, two-lane approach that zippers into a single drop-off with an adjacent bypass lane to maintain traffic flow, a dedicated pedestrian/bike path and bike racks on both sides, and clearer separation between parking and drop-off lanes.
District staff said the project will use LTFM funds and that construction documents are being finalized so the district can hold a pre-bid meeting and issue RFPs soon. The team said one procurement option under consideration is recycling existing asphalt for base material; engineers will advise whether that is feasible. The district stated a target final completion date of the second week of August, weather dependent, so staff and students can return for the fall schedule.
Board members asked about snow removal, final curb versus painted-line treatments and whether the bus lane or playground would be affected; staff said the bus lane and playground will not be changed in this project and that some raised curbs will be used while other areas will remain painted to ease snow removal. No formal vote was taken; the meeting included Q&A and direction to proceed with finalizing construction documents and soliciting bids.
